Peace in the Storm
By Bill Trimper
As we move through life, we are challenged to respond to the
needs of people. We will either show them Christ’s love or be
indifferent. I am always asking myself how will I respond to those
God chooses to put in my way, and if I will use the gifts that God
has given to me to further His kingdom.
One of the prayers that our team takes to the Lord, each time we
land at the airport in Moldova is “Lord, I need your help to see the
real needs of the people around me and for you to show me how to
care for them. Give me a heart of compassion like Yours and
opportunities to express your love.”
Last year I was housed by the Boldtag family — a Christian family in Rezina, Moldova,
whose youngest daughter was a “Down Syndrome” child. Mila was full
of energy and constantly wanted to know what was going on with
everyone. I could see how much energy it took to keep up with her
and how difficult it was to care for her.
Life in Moldova can seem unbearable at times just to survive day
to day. When I realized that there wasn’t a local supermarket, the
basic option for us to find food, the reality of how hard
life is in Moldova was quickly apparent. If you want milk, the
source is just outside in the shed. But, if you add physical pain,
lack of good medical care, difficult daily decisions and financial
hardships it is easy to become fearful and perplexed about life in a
poor country.
As our team prayed each day of our stay with this family, I felt
the tension of being overwhelmed by these troubles. Yet, I saw how
they had all learned a great lesson from Isaiah 26:3, “He will keep
in perfect peace all those who trust in him, whose thoughts turn
often to the Lord.”
This summer our team hand-carried a new medicine to help “Down
Syndrome” children. It was very expensive to purchase. However, the
Lord provided a medical company in the USA to donate this care for
Mila. We are thrilled to see God’s loving kindness at work. How He
opens doors for His workers!
Those of us who know the Lord through personal faith in Christ
have a calm refuge in Him during the storms of life, even while the
howling winds of trial are sweeping over us. The Boldtag family had
learned how to experience peace of mind and calmness of the spirit
as they put their complete trust in the Lord. I hope I learned this
lesson too!
